We asked the porridge experts here at MOMA to explain why adding courgette into your porridge is a great idea and here’s what they said:- Courgette is packed full of fibre which is perfect for both slowing down digestion and keeping insulin levels even - both of which can keep you feeling fuller for longer
- Courgette is incredibly low in calories, with just 17 calories per 100g. It also counts as one of your ‘5-a-day’ fruit and vegetable quota
- They contain loads of healthy scientific words and vitamins like thiamin, pyridoxine, riboflavin and minerals like iron, manganese, phosphorus, and zinc
- A single courgette provides more potassium than a banana. Potassium is known for it’s blood pressure lowering properties.

Thankfully, Zoats are really simple to make, and can be topped with your usual porridge toppings. Simply shred your courgette/zucchini into your warm morning porridge and stir.

Just the name of this recipe is enough to make your mouth water. Combine extra chia seeds, shredded Courgette and some small slices of banana to a coconut & chia porridge pot and stir it all in. The Courgette helps to bulk up the volume of the porridge, helping to keep you satisfied for hours.
Top Tip: Try adding a few chopped walnuts for extra crunch as well as a great source of the B vitamin biotin.

This recipe is perfect for those mornings where you have 101 things to do in about 5 minutes. Add grated Courgette to a porridge pot or porridge sachet of your choice and stir in in some vanilla protein powder and a splash of almond milk. All that is left to do is to dust with cinnamon and top with your favourite fruit, nuts, or berries. Now you have a delicious bowl of Zoats and Proats (protein + oats) to work away those morning aches and pains.
